The main objectives of my research are to develop monitoring and control techniques for insect pests of pecan and peach. At the Coastal Plain Experiment Station we have recently developed an intercropping scheme for pecan orchards to enhance predators of pecan aphids. New chemical control techniques have been developed to combat pyrethroid-resistant aphids with systemic insecticides. We are also working on biological and chemical control of pecan weevil, biological control of pecan nutcasebearer, and pheromone evaluations for hickory shuckworm and pecan nutcasebearer. Alternatives to chemical control are being found through research on host plant resistant pecan cultivars. Insect vectors of phony peach disease are being monitored in the southern Georgia production areas.
